Haroon Lorgat, the former ICC CEO, has been appointed Cricket South Africa’s new chief executive. The position has been vacant since October last year, when Gerald Majola was fired in the aftermath of the bonus-payments scandal.”Mr Lorgat’s appointment follows a thorough and rigorous process to fill this important position,” CSA president Chris Nenzani said. “The quality of the candidates was exceptional and I would like to express my appreciation to the sub-committee of the board as well as my colleagues on the board who have brought this matter to a highly satisfactory conclusion.”Although CSA refused to confirm the other candidates, Lorgat is believed to have seen off challenges from at least three other hopefuls. They included former football head, Bheki Shongwe, who was the managing director of Kaizer Chiefs, Murphy Morobe, who is in charge of Kagiso media and Denver Hendricks, a director at the University of Pretoria.Of the names on the shortlist, Lorgat was the only one with extensive experience in cricket administration. He was previously a treasurer of CSA and convenor of selectors, and he spent four years as CEO of the ICC.It was in the last of those roles that Lorgat is believed to have bumped heads with the most powerful body in cricket, the BCCI. They are thought to have clashed over the Future Tours Programme, the DRS and an ICC independent governance review. The BCCI expressed their unhappiness at Lorgat’s possible appointment as early as March, when CSA drew up their initial shortlist.At the time, lead independent director on CSA’s board Norman Arendse confirmed that the BCCI had raised concerns over Lorgat. “We said to them we had embarked on a process and that it would be a premature to discuss him or the outcome of that process because we are waiting for it to be concluded,” Arendse said.CSA had also heard that the BCCI were considering pulling out of the upcoming tour should Lorgat be appointed. CSA proceeded to lengthen the process of appointing a new CEO, widened the net and allowed for more applicants to put their names forward.Lorgat, who remained interested in the job, provided the board restructured as they were instructed to by a ministerial investigation into the bonus-payments affair, was also on the list the second time around. Before interviews could be conducted, the fixtures for an India tour comprising of two T20s, seven ODIs and three Tests were released by CSA. The BCCI stated their objection to the schedule but there has been no official news of a bid to boycott the tour. ESPNcricinfo understands the two boards are in discussions over whether to tweak the itinerary and CSA do not foresee any problems with India’s visit.Lorgat and his fellow applicants presented to CSA’s board today and Lorgat was appointed immediately. A date has not been released for Lorgat to officially take up office, but he is believed to be available immediately. That would mean acting CEO Naasei Appiah will vacate the post as soon as next week.

A faltering Sri Lanka A were beaten comprehensively by SLC Combined XI, in the third match of the List A tri-series in Pallekele. SLC Combined captain Dimuth Karunaratne hit an unbeaten hundred as his side ran down Sri Lanka A’s 211 with seven wickets in hand and more than nine overs to spare. Both teams have been beaten once by the Rest of Sri Lanka side so far in the tournament.Offspinning allrounder Sachithra Serasinghe also contributed significantly to the win, first removing three top-order batsmen in a long first spell, then returning with the bat to help secure smooth passage towards victory. He bowled Niroshan Dickwella, who, upon promotion to the top order, had built a 45-run stand with Udara Jayasundera after the early loss of Dilshan Munaweera. Serasinghe then had captain Angelo Perera lbw not long after, before dismissing Jayasundera in the 23rd over. Serasinghe conceded just 34 in 8.4 overs.A half-century from Ashan Priyanjan helped Sri Lanka A post an acceptable total after having been 79 for 5, but his rebuilding efforts were repeatedly thwarted by regular wickets at the other end. Coming in at No. 6, he largely had to make do with tailenders for company. Priyanjan was dismissed in the 45th over by Malinga Bandara, and his side was bowled out in the 49th.In response, Karunaratne forged an 80-run opening partnership with Mahela Udawatte that became the foundation of SLC Combined’s innings, which was never put into strife. Suranga Lakmal and Vimukthi Perera – the bowlers who had wreaked havoc on the Rest of Sri Lanka’s top order on Tuesday – were expensive in this match, giving away runs at more than six and seven runs an over respectively. The spin bowlers fared better, but were unable to add more than two wickets to the scalp Lakmal earned.Serasinghe joined Karunaratne with 68 runs to get, and the pair breezed through the rest of the chase, hitting their target in ten overs, as Karunaratne crossed 100 with a six off Lakmal. His 109 not out came in 125 deliveries, and featured 12 fours and a six.Sri Lanka A will play their third match in three days against Rest of Sri Lanka on Thursday.

The changes made to the 50-overs game’s fielding-restrictions rules could be the biggest challenge for the bowlers going into the New Zealand-England ODIs, fast bowler Kyle Mills believes.As per the new rules that took effect from October 30, 2012, only four fielders can be placed beyond the 30-yards circle even outside of the Powerplay overs. This, Mills said, made things particularly difficult for the fielding team at the compact New Zealand grounds.”That [four fielders outside the circle] is pretty hard to bowl to,” Mills told the . “And I imagine even more so on New Zealand grounds. Having only four out at Eden Park [Auckland], Hamilton and even Napier is going to be a real test of bowlers’ skills. It’s going to be a huge challenge for all the bowlers in the series.”New Zealand are coming off a 2-1 defeat to England in the Twenty20 series, but Mills said that will not have a negative impact on the hosts. He pointed to New Zealand’s one-day series victory in South Africa last month, which followed a thrashing in the Tests, as evidence that previous results hold no sway over the team’s mindset. “I guess we didn’t have the battle scars from what happened in the Tests. The nature of international cricket now is, when you’re chopping from series to series, and different formats, you can often put things that happened previously to bed quite quickly.”Captain Brendon McCullum also said he expected his team to recover quickly from the loss. “We expected to win the T20 series coming in to it. So to lose it, we are obviously disappointed about that,” he said. “But I thought we bounced back straightaway in the second T20 [after losing the first] and I expect us to bounce back strongly in the first game of the one-dayers too.”That’s a characteristic of this team at the moment, our ability to bounce back, and we are going to have to do so in that little while because England will obviously be reasonably confident after the T20 performance, albeit with a new squad of theirs coming in.”The one-day format, McCullum said, suited New Zealand best. “Given our recent results, I think it is [our best format]. I think it’s a form that’s not so frenetic as well. You can actually play okay in periods of the game, but you’re never necessarily out of it.”In one-day cricket, because it lasts a fraction longer, you are able to fight your way back in to the game. I think we’ve got a reasonable game plan in one-day cricket as well, especially with our batting.”New Zealand play the first ODI of their three-match series against England on Sunday in Hamilton.

‘Optei pelo Inter por conta do projeto, pelas competições que o Inter vai disputar esse ano. Isso me seduziu bastante, a estrutura, torcida, o apoio, jogos importantes, competições importantes. Vai entrar como favorito sempre, acho que a motivação é a mais, extra. Como conversei com alguns funcionários do clube, é ano de Libertadores, a pegada é outra’, afirmou.

Diante da concorrência de peso com Edenilson e Patrick, o novo jogador do Colorado revelou que pode jogar até mais adiantado dentro de campo para ajudar a equipe.

‘Vinha jogando de segundo volante, mas hoje com o futebol moderno comecei como primeiro volante. Após mudanças de treinador na equipe anterior, joguei mais à frente. Futebol hoje não cabe ao atleta jogar numa posição só. Chego para ajudar, somar. Tenho feito bastante jogos como primeiro volante e segundo também. Já tive um bate-papo com o professor Odair. Quando ele optar pelas minhas características, pelo o que o Inter vai precisar, vou estar sempre à disposição para ajudar a equipe’, declarou.
